 *   Friday: Football @ Watauga

Friday we will be taking charter buses to Boone for our 3rd round playoff game at Watauga HS. Due to the distance of the game, our schedule will be a little different than a usual away game (see below). Please prepare for the cold! I suggest the following: thermal/base layers of additional clothing, hoodies/sweatshirts, heavy winter coats, scarves, gloves, hats, warm socks, boots or other warm shoes, blankets, hand/foot warmer thingies.

We will be leaving at 2:00 and heading to Golden Corral in Hickory to eat dinner, then going on to Boone for the game. Dinner cost is $11.50, which includes meal, drink, and gratuity (please bring with you on Friday as well as money for concessions if you would like). Students will meet in the band room at 1:30 (students will be excused from 4th block). WMS students I will update you on procedures after I discuss with Mr. Leake. There is storage underneath the charter buses, so we will load all instruments in bus storage compartments.

All students are expected to attend, as stated on our calendar. Please remember that although the competitive season is over, marching band season continues as long as the football team advances through the playoffs.

Congratulations to the Weddington Marching Warriors for receiving the following awards at the 2018 Pirate Cove Classic:

  • 2nd Place Band (of 6) in Class 3A
  • 2nd Place Music
  • 2nd Place Marching
  • 3rd Place Percussion
  • Superior Rating
  • Jim Hill Award (highest score from a Union County Band)

Great ending to a great 2018 season.

Hah....get it?? It's been a long week people, lol!

Thursday Schedule:

 *   4:00 Student call time (outside band room)
 *   5:15 Senior Dinner and Celebration
 *   6:30 Band ready in band room
 *   6:40 Line up/march to stadium

Senior recognition will begin at 7pm, followed by our normal pregame  procedures. Band will be ready, as soon as senior recognition concludes you will line up on the track to march out for pregame. We will be in full uniform and we will perform the full show at halftime.

Students please don't forget your black socks and green shirts for Thursday! Dinner is free of charge for ALL students and senior families. Please enjoy a DELICIOUS catered meal from DeSarno's in celebration of our seniors!

Special shout out to our booster board members and senior dinner committee for being so awesome and having everything ready to go a day early!! Y'all are the best!

Corrections to the October calendar
The last Tuesday practice will be October 23rd; there is NOT a Tuesday band practice on October 30th!! Also the After School Pizza sale scheduled for October 25th has been moved to November 1st (everything was shifted due to the cancellation of activities due to the hurricane).

We will not be performing the show at Friday's game due to Homecoming festivities at halftime. We will otherwise follow our normal procedures for the game.

Please eat before you arrive and bring a lunch to eat after rehearsal. Make sure to check the weather and bring jackets/hoodies for cooler weather into the evening.

Cookie Dough is due TOMORROW with money.  Please tally your order sheets and make sure your money equals what you are supposed to have on the order sheet.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help count and verify the Cookie Dough orders.  If you are available please meet in the cafeteria on this Tuesday afternoon at 3:30pm.  If we have a good turn out if should only take about an hour to an hour and 30 min. Many hands make light work, so please consider volunteering:)

All spirit wear has been distributed.  Please let Tracy Dirr know if you have not received an item from the online store.<>
There are still a few band t-shirts for sale.  Black show shirts and Green Marching Warrior shirts. Sizes S-XL  All shirts $10.

We are in need of 2 additional chaperones for Friday's football game. If you are available please sign up in Charms!

Parents photos have been taken and now we are ready to print all orders.  Final orders we will take up to Wednesday.  All orders will be handed out on Friday after the football game.  This is a fundraiser for the band so order your memories of the 2018 band season today!  Thanks again to our photographer, Joe Eustacr and our sponsor, Megan Barlow of this event.

Spirit Day on Thursday
Since school was canceled last Thursday due to the hurricane, we are rescheduling our Spirit Day with pizza and soda sales to this Thursday, October 18th.  Pizza slices are $2 each and sodas are $1 each.  Support the band after school starting at 3:30pm with a snack before practice. Pizza provided by Papas Pizza to Go and sodas provided by Harris Teeter.

Holiday Treats
Parents at the Porter Ridge competition, it has become a tradition that we pass out treat bags to the kids during the competition for them to enjoy.  This is where we need your help.  Please send in treats (candy) that is nut free to Mrs. Brooks by October 19. Label the bag "Holiday Treats" so its not eaten??.  So start shopping so that the kids have HUGE treat bags this year!

Friday's dinner
This Friday homecoming dinner will be provided by Jersey Mike's.  On the menu will be subs, chips, fruit, drinks and desserts. We are in need of donations for fruit and dessert for this Friday's dinner.  If you would like to volunteer, please go to:

SENIOR Parents
Please see the attached photo! We are preparing for our senior night festivities and wanted to remind you to make sure you don't forget your funny/cute/slightly embarrassing posters of your senior! They will be on display throughout the dinner/game on senior night. More information for you about senior night will be coming soon!

We will be performing our show in full uniform with props Friday night! Woohoo! We will also be hosting the 8th grade band members from WMS (8th graders who are in marching band will follow normal Friday procedures).

We will follow similar procedures as last week. Please eat before you arrive and bring a lunch to eat following rehearsal. Please also bring your large water bottles for rehearsal! Following our performance, we will return to the stands to watch the remaining bands and patronize the concession stands prior to the awards ceremony.

Parents it still not too late to have the individual photo session!  Our last one is scheduled for this wed, October 3rd.  Please be in the football field dressed in uniform and with your instrument at 3:45pm.  Photos will end by 5:30pm.  See you then.

Family night dinner
This Wednesday, October 3rd, we will be having our second Family night dinner at Panera Bread at Waverly.  Come out with your friends and family while supporting the WHSBB 4-9pm.  See everyone there!

Saturday Recap

I just want to reiterate how proud and impressed I was with the performance Saturday! Our class was unbelievably tough, and we were very competitive! In addition to the Daniel Boles Memorial Spirit of Music Award, we received 3rd place in Drum Major, General Effect, and Marching, 4th in Percussion and Guard, and 5th in Music. I am very pleased and looking forward to WORKING HARD this week on the closer!
